I continue to be very concerned about efforts to push a facility into the Sioux Falls Metro area. Obviously an urban prison isn't working, so remote (far away from Sioux Falls) probably makes the most sense (if a facility is necessary at all, which most citizens question). The reality is the families of prisoners bring crime and social issues to an area (and metro intensifies those issues). Would it make sense to ship all of our prisoners to another state that is in the prison business. That way we don't have to worry about buildings or pressure to enter that business ourselves (or the deal with all the crime or recidivism that never seems to get addressed). Honestly, still have no idea why Florida has lots of reservations and low recidivism and we have reservations and high recidivism. Also, wondering why we have any out of state prisoners in our system. Seems like someone is telling us half truths.
